Your Prejudice Map Privacy

Privacy

What we record, and what we don't.

Plain language, no dark patterns. This tool is a research demonstration; it collects the least it can to do the research, keeps it anonymous, and never sells it.

What's recorded automatically

When you finish the quiz, one anonymous record is saved for research:

  • Your forced choices, expressed as a rating per country, your bias type, and the session length.
  • The country and ethnicity you give before the quiz (see below). These are stored with your anonymous record and feed the aggregate regional and demographic patterns - this applies to everyone, not only study participants.
  • Your connection country, derived by Cloudflare's edge network. We store the two-letter country code only - we never store your IP address.
  • An anonymous, random session identifier (kept in your browser's local storage) so repeat pageviews aren't double-counted.
  • Basic traffic events - pageviews, quiz starts, quiz completions - with no personal content.

There is no name, no email, no account, and no advertising tracker. The record cannot be tied back to you.

What you're asked before the quiz

Before the quiz everyone is asked two things, because the result needs them to be accurate and fair. There is no login and no ID tracking either way, and neither of these identifies you:

  • Country you're in - required, because your "homeward / outward" score is measured relative to your own region. It also powers the "how you compare" tables.
  • Ethnicity - self-identified, broad categories. It is treated as sensitive (special-category) data; you may always decline by choosing "prefer not to say". It is recorded for everyone (anonymous or study) and used only in the aggregate demographic patterns - never to identify you.

Joining the study additionally records optional fields - sex, age band and state / region - each skippable with a "prefer not to say". No email is asked for at this stage.

Optional accounts (saving your results)

Creating an account is entirely optional - the test works fully anonymously without one, and the anonymous research record above is never linked to an account. If you do sign in:

  • Sign-in is passwordless: you enter your email and a one-time 6-digit code. Your email address is stored to identify your account.
  • Results you choose to save are kept against your account as your private history (so you can retake the test over time and see how your map shifts). Only you can read your own history.
  • Comparing with a friend is opt-in on both sides: you generate a share link, your friend takes the test and chooses to share their result back, and the paid head-to-head is visible for 24 hours. Each of you only shares a result you decided to share.
  • Accounts and saved results are stored by Supabase (our database provider) and isolated per user. You can sign out any time, and ask the operator to delete your account and its saved results.

Payments, email & the explanation guide

The optional $2 explanation guide is processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and are never seen or stored by us - we only learn that a payment succeeded.

An email address is stored only if you buy the guide (to send you the PDF) or create an account (see above). It's used to deliver your report or identify your account - we don't add you to a marketing list or share it. Ask the operator if you'd like it deleted.

The optional $1 friend comparison uses the same Stripe checkout and unlocks a head-to-head view for 24 hours.

Referral / affiliate links

If you arrive via a link containing a ?ref= code, that code is stored in your browser and attached to your anonymous traffic and result, so the referrer can be credited (affiliates earn a share of any sale they refer). The code is just a label - it carries nothing about you.

Stored in your browser

  • A random session id and any referral code (local storage).
  • A short-lived copy of your latest result (session storage), used to show your guide after checkout.
  • If you sign in, a Supabase authentication session (local storage) that keeps you logged in until you sign out.
  • Your quiz itself runs entirely in your browser. Clearing site data removes all of the above.

How the data is used

Only in aggregate, for the research shown on the dashboard - distributions of bias types, regional and demographic patterns, and traffic. Raw records are accessible only to the site operator behind an admin key. We do not sell data or share it with advertisers.

Your choices

  • Don't want to contribute demographics? Don't tick the box.
  • Want your anonymous record removed? Because records carry no identifier, contact the operator with the approximate date/time and country and they can locate and delete it.
  • Clear your browser's site data to remove everything stored locally.

Honest note. This is a demonstration project, not a commercial product with a legal team. If it's deployed publicly to users in the EU/UK or other regulated regions, the operator should add a full, jurisdiction-specific privacy policy and consent mechanism (GDPR lawful basis, data-processing records, and a route to erasure) before launch. The design here - consent for sensitive data, country-not-IP, anonymity by default - is built to make that straightforward, but it is not a substitute for legal advice.
